Dr. Donald Bodnar Elected
AMTA President for 2010
MI
Technologies is delighted to announce that Dr. Don
Bodnar
has been chosen AMTA President for 2010. |

|
|
Dr. Bodnar was elected to AMTA's board of directors at AMTA 2007 in St. Louis. At the AMTA 2009 Conference in November, he was chosen to head that board as President of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association during 2010.
Dr. Bodnar has been an active speaker in regional AMTA
meetings held around the world and is recognized as an
expert antenna
design and measurement resource. He has also served the
antenna community in a variety of capacities.
|
Many will remember that not long ago, Dr. Bodnar served
as President of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation
Society (APS), the other major antenna association with
global breadth. To our knowledge, he is only the second
person in history to serve as President of both major
antenna organizations and is the author or co-author of
over 100 publications.
He is an internationally known expert in the field of
antenna design and analysis, especially scanning
reflector antennas and in the polarization
characterization of antennas using both theoretical and
experimental methods. He has performed near-field and
far-field antenna and RCS measurements using compact,
near-field and far-field measurement techniques.
Dr. Bodnar holds a doctorate degree and a bachelor’s
degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia
Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in
electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology. He has taught graduate and undergraduate
courses at the Georgia Institute of Technology in
antennas, electromagnetic theory, materials, and
computer programming. He has also taught several short
courses including Antenna Engineering, Principles of
Modern Radar, Phased Array Antennas, Polarimetric Radar,
Principals and Applications of Millimeter Wave Radar,
and Scanning Antenna Design. |

Numerical Calibration of Standard Gain Horns and OEWG Probes
Presented at AMTA 2009, Dr. Donald Bodnar's paper on
Numerical Calibration of Standard Gain Horns and OEWG Probes discusses the gain-transfer technique most commonly used antenna gain measurement method that involves the comparison of the AUT gain to that of another antenna with known gain. At microwave frequencies and above, special pyramidal horn antennas known as standard-gain horns are universally accepted as the gain standard of choice. A design method and gain curves for these horns were developed by the US Naval Research Laboratory in 1954. This paper examines the ability of modern numerical electromagnetic modeling to predict the gain of these horns and possibly achieve greater accuracy than with the NRL approach.
