MI Technologies Selected by Alcatel Space to Provide State-of-the-Art Antenna Test and Measurement System

ATLANTA: MI Technologies announced today it has been selected by Alcatel Space (Cannes - France), to supply and commission a state-of-the-art antenna measurement, acquisition, and analysis system for Alcatel Space Compact Antenna Test Range in Cannes.

MI Technologies’ automated test and measurement systems are used by customers in communications and commercial markets around the world to evaluate wireless and satellite communication systems, telematics antennas, electromagnetic interference and compatibility and component characteristics.

Under terms of the contract, MI Technologies will install its MI-2097 Automated Microwave Measurement System in conjunction with RF components which will enable the system to acquire and analyze data up to 60GHz. Multiplexers (up to 8 port) will allow Alcatel Space to address the ever increasing need of fast and accurate measurements for the latest generation of multimedia satellites. The new position control system will enable precise control of nine axes of motion included in the test range. The Alcatel Space test range was built in 1993 by Alcatel Space (formerly Aerospatiale).

The MI Technologies MI-2097 Automated Microwave Measurement System is compatible with and complements the test range equipment that is to be retained including the dual reflector compact range.

Dr Carlo Rizzo, European Operations Manager for MI Technologies, said, “This latest engagement with Alcatel Space demonstrates our strategic partnership within the space segment in Europe. Alcatel’s confidence in the products and services offered by MI Technologies further strengthens our position in the European market, and as a result, will accelerate other similar upgrades at several spacecraft manufacturers and test sites within the EU and North America.”

MI Technologies, along with its local Sales and Authorized Service Center, Cal Info Mesure (Paris, France), will install the system and perform the acceptance test within a schedule designed to meet the increasing RF performance requirements of upcoming satellite payload testing.

Michael Murphy, Vice President and Business Manager for MI Technologies’ Commercial and Communications business areas, said, “The increased test speed and flexibility provided by the MI-2097 Automated Microwave Measurement System will give Alcatel Space a significant competitive advantage in the global spacecraft market, enabling it to manufacture and test multimedia and high-frequency payloads.”

MI Technologies, headquartered in Suwanee, Georgia, delivers engineering solutions and advanced products, systems, and software to address a wide range of technical applications where precise measurement, control or data acquisition is required. For more than 50 years the business has been a leading supplier of products, systems and services for RF and Microwave antenna, radome, and radar cross section (RCS) testing. MI Technologies’ test, measurement and precision motion control products are used in research, development, monitoring and manufacturing processes worldwide.
