Five MI Technologies executives and scientists were recognized with
honors at the 2007 annual Symposium of the Antenna Measurement Techniques
Association (AMTA) in November.
Joseph Pape, retired Marketing Manager for MI Technologies, and Dr. Doren Hess were inducted as Charter Members of AMTA's Edmond S. Gillespie Fellowship. Mr. Pape and Dr. Hess were recognized for their outstanding and pioneering contributions to the theory, practice and art of antenna and RF measurements.
The AMTA Edmond S. Gillespie Fellowship is named for Dr. Edmond S. Gillespie, a long time member of the AMTA and an educator at the University of California at Northridge. Dr. Gillespie, who passed away this year, was recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and passionate teachers on the subjects of antenna design and the correct way to perform antenna and RF Measurements.
Admission to the Edmond S. Gillespie Fellowship is awarded annually by the AMTA Board of Directors to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the AMTA and the antenna, radar reflectivity, and associated measurement communities.
Mr. Pape, who served as MI Technologies' first Marketing Manager in 1997, was instrumental in establishing AMTA in 1978 while he served as director of marketing for the Microwave Instrumentation business of Scientific-Atlanta, a predecessor company of MI Technologies. Mr. Pape has contributed numerous technical papers on microwave measurement techniques over the years as an author and co-author.
Dr. Hess, honored by AMTA in 1998 as a recipient of its Distinguished
Achievement Award, has made substantial contributions to the theory and practice
of microwave measurements over his career including developing the concepts of
spherical near field testing, the IsoFilterTM antenna measurement technique and
others. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 technical papers.
"Throughout their careers these fellowship members have exemplified and promoted the goals and objectives of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association," said Daniel Janse van Rensburg, President of AMTA.
AMTA Senior Members
Jeffrey Fordham, Vice President, Donald Weiss, Senior Engineering
Specialist and Dr. Donald Bodnar, Vice President, were named Senior Members at
AMTA during ceremonies conducted at the annual business luncheon.
Senior Membership in AMTA is awarded to those who have contributed to the AMTA over a significant period of time by serving the organization in many different ways including serving on various committees, helping as volunteers doing the business of running AMTA or submitting white papers for presentation during AMTA's annual symposium.
Dr. Bodnar Elected to the AMTA Board of Directors
Dr. Donald Bodnar, MI Technologies Vice President, was elected to a three-year
term on the AMTA Board of Directors. Dr. Bodnar has been an active speaker in
regional AMTA meetings held at various locations around the world. He will serve
as AMTA’s Meetings Coordinator during the coming year.
At MI Technologies Dr. Bodnar is responsible for development of new business areas, leading high technology proposals and for expanding existing measurement products into new market areas. He is an internationally known expert in the field of antenna design and analysis, especially scanning reflector antennas and in the polarization characterization of antennas using both theoretical and experimental methods. He holds a doctorate degree and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the Georgia Institute of Technology in antennas, electromagnetic theory, materials, and computer programming.
Dr. Bodnar joins Dr. Carlo Rizzo, MI Technologies' Director of European
Operations, on the AMTA Board. Dr. Rizzo is completing his three-year term
serving AMTA as Vice President.
